Wisdom Teeth

Posted on 05:47 by kajal singh
Our staff reporter Deana Fishel had to get her wisdom teeth removed over Christmas Break. She is willing to share her experience with us. "When I had to get up the morning of the surgery on January 2, I was nervous. Who wouldn't be though? I was not ready to get anything cut out of me, especially bones out of my mouth! The nurse called me back to the procedure room, and my anxiety hit me hard. Once I started talking to the nurse, I had calmed down a lot. Then it was time for the IV. Once I got the IV, the doctor came in to give me the medicine to knock me out. All I remember was something about him giving me a steroid to help with the swelling, then I was out. I woke up, but only remember getting into my car. I was in pain. My mom took me to Wendy's to get a Frosty so I would have something in my stomach when I took the pain medicine. Once I took the medicine, it knocked me out again, and I woke up three hours later in my living room. When I woke up, I was happy the medicine was working. I took some more medicine, and this time it didn't make me want to fall asleep. I repeated this routine for about five days straight. Once Christmas Break was over and it was time to go back to school, I still wasn't able to function with my medicine head. I missed about two days of school, but I was ready to be back. After I got to school, I was ready to be back home. I was exhausted. On January 12, I went back to my surgeon because I was still having trouble eating anything. When the surgeon looked he had said I was still a bit swollen, so he gave me some medicine to help with that. Now I'm back to my old self, and I am very happy about it."

Report Cards

Posted on 05:23 by kajal singh

Staff Reporter Sam Smith                                                                     What do your parents do when you show them your report card? Reward you, ground you, praise you, scold you? I asked a few kids how their parents react to their grades. Some kids said that their parents do not even look at their grades. Another kid told me that he gets his phone taken and is not allowed to hang out with friends any longer until his grades come up. A couple of students responded with, “My parents pay me for the good grades I get and take away money if there are any bad grades.” Some more drastic consequences that came up were that kids got their personal things taken away such as items from their room, their driving privileges, electronics, their doors taken off their rooms or even that their parents went to school with them to get them on task. What do your parents do when you show them your report card? Do you have a story to share? Send us your story at thebulldogfetch@gmail.com !

Cookie Monster's Favorite Time of Year

Posted on 12:18 by kajal singh
Staff Reporter Rowan Gast-Bray
These next couple of weeks are a holiday season unlike any other. Millions of young girls will be sent forth bearing order forms for Girl Scout Cookie sales. In this time of festivity, it will not be hard to get your hands on a box (or 40 boxes) of cookies. You can purchase a single box for only four dollars. Many people have already selected their choice cookies, but I must recommend a few of my favorites. Brand new this year is the Rah-Rah Raisin cookie, a hearty combo of yogurt chunks, oatmeal and raisins. Another fine option for the donut-shape lovers is the Samoa, a crisp cookie covered in thick chocolate, coconut, and caramel. My personal favorite and a timely classic is the Thin Mint. It boasts a pleasant proportion of chocolate to mint and is even VEGAN! There are still others in the gamut of gastronomic delight: Savannah Smiles, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos and Tagalongs. You can find order forms with any staff member who has a child in Girl Scouts. Try Mrs. Dimmack, Mr.Tronc, Mrs. Mobley or Mr. Burke. Do not despair if the cookies have already been delivere. You can still buy a box. Talk to a Girl Scout and find out where Cookie Booths will be located.  A percentage of your purchase is donated to each troop, so I am sure you can find it in your heart (and your stomach) to help out!

Bulldog Wrestling

Over the Christmas break, our wrestling program reaped the rewards of their hard work. They placed 8th out of 23 teams in the incredibly competitive Holiday Classic in Mooresville. However, their biggest achievement was a 3rd place finish in the 1A State Invitational. The Indiana State Wrestling Coaches Association (ISWCA) invited 12 of the best schools in the state to compete for the state title. The grueling meet lasted for hours, and in the end the Monrovia Bulldogs trounced Bremen to win 3rd place. Dristin McCubbins and Ethan Stock were both undefeated on the day, but the combined efforts of all the wrestlers earned our Bulldogs the trophy.

Bulldog Mascot - Do You Have What It Takes?

Posted on 05:59 by kajal singh
Staff Reporter Sam Smith
What does the mascot do?
Mascots are generally funny and energetic. They are at a game to get the crowd to respond and be involved. They will sometimes do motions to cheer with the cheerleaders, but in an exaggerated way.
Is there a size restriction?
The mascot costume is a size large. It can fit anyone up to that size.
Who can be the mascot?
Anyone can be the school mascot. They should be fun, energetic and have school spirit. It would be difficult to be a football or basketball player since the mascot will have to cheer for those games. There will be an alternate mascot, so there is a possibility for it to be a different person each season.
How hot is the suit?
HOT! Wearing a large animal suit seems hot enough, but jumping and moving around will make it extra hot.

Another Cold Winter

Posted on 08:03 by kajal singh
Another January, another week of school closings and delays across central Indiana. What does the rest of this winter have in store for us? Here at The Fetch, we consult our trusty Farmer's Almanac, and the prediction looks blue, icy blue. The Almanac lists January 8 - 17 as "bitter cold." February looks to have mild temperatures (an average of 28 degrees), but with half an inch more than the average snowfall. March is slated to remain cold with an average temperature of 33 degrees. After three cold months, April and May are both predicted to be five degrees warmer than average. It's nice to have something to look forward to.

Many of you have made New Year's resolutions to eat healthier. You don't need to sacrifice all of your sweet treats. Fruit leather is an excellent way to find a great tasting yet healthy alternative to packaged confections. Fruit leather has the consistency of fruit roll-ups, but is easier to make than a batch of cookies. Keep in mind that there is an endless possibility of fruits that you can combine to make the best fruit leather for your particular tastes. Follow this recipe to make your own fruit leather at home.
